How Vellure collects, uses, and shares your information

This Privacy Policy explains how Written Word Media, Inc. (“Vellure,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use the Vellure website, apps, and related services (the “Service”). By using the Service, you agree to this Policy. Capitalized terms not defined here have the meaning given in our Terms of Service.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information you provide

  • Account information — such as your name or display name, email address, password, and any profile details or avatar you add.
  • Content you create — your shelves and collections, the books you add, your decorations and customizations, reviews, ratings, notes, lists, comments, and messages.
  • Social and sharing information — your followers, friends, and connections, and information about what you choose to share and with whom.
  • Communications — information you provide when you contact support, respond to surveys, or otherwise communicate with us.
  • Payment information — if you make a purchase, our payment processor collects and handles your payment details; we do not store full card numbers.

1.2 Information we collect automatically

  • Usage data — how you interact with the Service, such as pages and shelves viewed, features used, searches, and time and dates of access.
  • Device and technical data — device type, operating system, browser, app version, language, IP address, and identifiers.
  • Cookies and similar technologies — as described in Section 6.

1.3 Information from third parties

If you sign in or connect through a third-party service (for example, a social login), we receive limited information from that service consistent with your settings there. We also receive book metadata and cover images from publishers, authors, retailers, and data providers, and we may receive analytics and advertising-related information from partners.

2. How We Use Information

We use information to:

  • provide, operate, maintain, and secure the Service, including hosting your shelves and enabling sharing;
  • power discovery, search, feeds, and personalized recommendations;
  • enable the social and sharing features you choose to use, including sharing your content on your behalf as you direct;
  • communicate with you about your account, updates, security, and (where permitted) marketing you can opt out of;
  • develop new features, understand usage, and improve the Service;
  • display and measure advertising and promoted content; and
  • comply with legal obligations, enforce our Terms, and protect the rights, safety, and security of users and the public.

3. How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information for money. We share information as follows:

  • With other users and the public — your display name, profile, and any shelves, decorations, and other content you make public or share are visible to others according to your visibility settings. Public content may be viewable by people without a Vellure account and may appear in search or discovery features.
  • As you direct — when you use sharing features, we transmit your content to the recipients, links, or third-party platforms you choose.
  • With service providers — vendors that host, operate, analyze, and support the Service (for example, cloud hosting, email delivery, analytics, and payment processing), who may use the information only to provide services to us.
  • With advertising partners — to deliver and measure advertising, which may involve sharing limited identifiers or usage data. Where required, we obtain consent and honor opt-out signals.
  • For legal reasons — to comply with law or valid legal process, enforce our Terms, or protect rights, safety, and security.
  • In a business transfer — in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, subject to this Policy.

4. Your Shelves, Sharing, and Visibility

Vellure is designed to let you share what you build. You control how your shelves and content are shared through the visibility settings we provide (such as private, friends-only, or public). We honor the setting in effect when content is displayed or shared. Remember that once you share content or make it public, others may view, copy, save, or re-share it, and we cannot control or retrieve copies they retain. Choose your visibility settings with that in mind.

5. Data Retention

We keep personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, and afterward as necessary to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information within a commercially reasonable period, though residual copies may remain in backups for a limited time and shared or public content may persist as described above.

6. Cookies and Similar Technologies

We and our partners use cookies, SDKs, pixels, and similar technologies to operate the Service, remember your preferences, analyze usage, and (where applicable) support advertising. You can control cookies through your browser or device settings, and, where required, through a consent tool we provide. Some features may not function properly without certain cookies.

7. Advertising and Analytics

The Service may show advertising and promoted content, including book promotions. We and our partners may use usage and device information to select and measure ads. Depending on your location, you may have choices about interest-based advertising through your device settings or industry opt-out tools. We honor applicable opt-out preference signals where required by law.

8. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Protect your account by using a strong, unique password and keeping your credentials confidential.

9. International Data Transfers

We are based in the United States and may process and store information in the United States and other countries whose data-protection laws may differ from yours. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for cross-border transfers. By using the Service, you understand your information may be transferred to and processed in these locations.

10. Children’s Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13 without required consent, we will delete it. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us at [email protected]. Users under the age of majority may use the Service only as described in our Terms of Service.

11. Your Privacy Rights and Choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. 12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will provide reasonable notice, such as by posting the updated Policy with a new effective date or notifying you in the Service. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Policy.
